Where was all this anguished hand-wringing when the U.S. and Iraq were bombing
and shelling Mosul and Raqaa into rubble, killing thousands of civilians in a
matter of a few months? There is not one bit of difference between what the
Syrian coalition is doing to defeat jihadists in Aleppo and Damscus, and what
the ""U.S.-led coalition"" did to defeat jihadists in Mosul and Raqqa.
In its annual assessment issued last month, monitoring agency Airwars said
said that a minimum of between 3,923 and 6,102 civilians died in U.S.-led
coalition action in Iraq and Syria.

The enemy in Aleppo and Ghouta differs from the enemy in Mosul and Raqqa in
name and leadership only. Both are offshoots of Al-Qaeda in Iraq, their goals
are identical, and their methods are much the same (except ISIS is more fond
of disseminating videos of its brutality).
The glaring hypocrisy displayed by Western governments and media makes a
mockery of their protestations about Assad's efforts to defeat the jihadists,
and reduces them nearly to the level of propaganda. We can try to have it both
ways, but no one who is paying attention is fooled.
