Excellent! This one absorbs its reader like a sponge. There's something about a well-written "kid adventure" that demands your full attention. The flow of narration is smooth and eloquent, and the tale intoxicates the imagination with the wonderful world of boyhood. I don't know if this is an excerpt from a longer work but it ought to be. Masterfully written, Mr. Lee!
Lol.
Thanks Wayne. This short came from the original draft of One Year On Meade Street. Modified a bit, but essentially the same.
Frank's fate was mentioned in the next chapter, Benediction:) Perhaps I should post it?
You know this is my favorite of all your books. The entire novel deserves its own place in time, like, "The Wonder Years" I miss Skip and the gang. Third time is the charm. Email me in the future since I only go to this sight once in a while. Best to you!
Top notch story and writing I'm jealous. You sure know how to paint a picture. Too bad Norman Rockwell is dead and gone. I would love to see what he would come up with after reading this funny and yet sad tale of Frank.
We all have stories like that to relate.
My favorite line: "The apple of his mother's crossed eye." That gave me the giggles. Ahh cliffhanger! You have to continue this!
Oh the innocent cruelty of youth. I remember putting caterpillars in jars, hoping they would turn into butterflies, and they always died. However, I think I was a little more sensitive than your crowd! What a hoot! Yes, these kids could definitely be part of a large compendium of tales from the street. Go for it! Love it.
:)
We did this really believing Frank would come back to life!
As for Clifford and Allan...well...Lol.
Thanks my dear :-)
