We Interrupt This Program...

The Tale of One Family on One Day that will live in Infamy By:
We Interrupt This Program...

The year is 1941 and the Jameson family in Waxhaw, NC gathers around their radio to hear 'The Mystery Creeper' show. The harrowing tale they hear pales in comparison to the horrifying news they learn following the words 'We interrupt this program...'

Thank you, kindly. I actually have plans to continue the story and who knows perhaps I'll do a quick look at what was happening at the NY radio station when the Tale of the Undead Pullman was so abruptly interrupted. BTW, the Undead Pullman is a real ghost story where I grew up. BOO!! :-)

Really? Oh that's really scary :O xD

Nothing like growing up in a mill town with railroad tracks running through it! There's also the Ghost of Cook's Crossing (about a man who died at that same intersection when he was hit by a train) and The Lost Leg (about a lone leg that was found along that same stretch of... Show more

It's good that you found a way out of those constraints that the contest put on you. Neat little story. If you hadn't mentioned that they celebrated Thanksgiving early, I would have been really confused.

What a wonderfully lovely thing to say. I must admit, I'm ever so flattered by the attention my little story has garnered. It makes me blush AND reminds me that even those 'little stories' can pack quite a wallop! Perhaps I will visit the Jameson family again - one day. And we'll finally find out what became of Peter on that fateful day!

Again, my most gracious and sincere thanks!

@Stephen.Johnson.Jr I am once again pleased to know that I was able to create a story that was quite different from the bevy of tales that were sent in for the contest. When I read the prompt originally I thought, 'oh, great...I have to do a scary story!' But I simply wasn't feeling it. I tried (for about 5 minutes) but I couldn't do it. BUT when the 'radio show' popped into my head I said...'That's it!' And I decided to run... Show more

Thank you @wells12! I, too, think the WWII era is quite interesting especially since it was a point in history where everything changed so very fast and affected SO many people. And I love that I was able to connect the spirit of the tales my father used to tell around our dinner table to this story. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
