I have always heard that dogs bark at the mail carrier, etc., because the
carriers come and then, seemingly, when they hear the ferocious barking, they
flee for their lives. The dogs bark every day because they think they are
successful in chasing away the intruder. In their minds, probably super proud
of themselves of every day for that accomplishment.
