What I'd really like to see is what the officer's & department's training is
for building entry during an active shooter situation. Before the Virginia
Tech shooting, most departments trained to wait for SWAT. officers there were
also waiting while the shooter was inside. After, it became standard to wait

also waiting while the shooter was inside. After, it became standard to wait
for the first 3 officers. Three is pretty much the minimum you need for safe
entry and covering of your back and to clear rooms on either side. For
instance, tapes of the Utah (?) Planned Parenthood shooting, you hear the
officer say he's got three and are beginning entry. NYT -- and everyone else
-- needs to do a lot more investigative reporting to truly understand what was
going on with response.
