I take it there is a third person who is relating the story Suzanne is telling her? Poor Suzanne is both embarrassed and proud of her mother. Most of us can relate! A cute story.
I feel a bit confused about the voice of this story. It could probably do without the voice of the first paragraph and the last sentence. The whole thing reads well in the first person.
But why does Suzanne think that the teachers are sneering at her mother? Also, I would like to hear a bit more about how the mother thinks and feels.
Why is this the first time she has been to the school and why is she so determined to get there this time?
