True it is a short story but an enjoyable read. Might suggest adding more depth to what you wrote. Name the town, the person and what other animals were for sale i the shop. Add a little tension with all the puppies sold, but then this one was found... that sort of thing.And plans for the future might be interesting to include.First collar, first basket, choice of food and the dog flap, not forgetting the walks that will... I remember once rescuing a puppy and taking care of it for few days. One day suddenly I found it missing. wish I knew where it is.

My daughter rescued a Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix last April, called "Dolly." This dog was so grateful to be brought home that she just sits and stares in adoration at Vanessa. It is wonderful to rescue dogs...lovely story.
"and knowing she might never do so." would be a change I would suggest.
Otherwise, adorable, heart wrenching, and cute. Makes me miss my beloved Ginger who passed away two years ago. I haven't had a desire to replace her until now! Thank you for sharing. Robynn
