This could be a great start of a full story. It grabs your imagination. What was his pain? Would his heart heal? Who is this woman he is drawn to at a glance?
Wonderful example of no matter what you tell your heart, it has a mind of its own.

I guess he was just getting over a bad affair, and was affraid of stepping into a new one. There was a movies with Kelly LeBrock and Gene Wilder called " Woman in Red." AND a song by Chris De Burgh with the title " Lady in Red ", and a movie too which I haven't seen.

I liked your short story. But why didn't you want to fall in love with her? Her boyfriend was the pits! I don't think she was in love with him either! Could have been her brother?? Made me think of the Lady in Red movie! With Julia Roberts.
