Because Laz, a fine poet himself, praised the book, I opened it.

I have to be honest, though. I haven't read a collection of poetry in a long time. Moreover, I'm in no way able to review poetry. If I might use an analogy, I'm like the person who says, "I love Picasso's work." "Why?" someone who has studied art asks. "I don't know for certain. I just love it."

Kind of like that with Always. It's a gut thing, a visceral reaction, many of the lines grabbing me hard. But that really says nothing of the actual quality of the 13 works in your book. WHY are so many so good? I honestly don't know, but I get the feeling that the majority of them point toward the rise of an emerging master.

So, (I usually don't like when people start a conversation with the word 'so'), I saw this book of poems and thought to myself "Oh, another book of poem", sigh. I will just peruse through a few and then slink away to someplace else.
But, to my surprise, these poems/thoughts are vividly, profound and maturely written. I don't have any favorites...because they are all good. If, I had to choose one or more, they would be..."I was thinking, My Girls, and My Dearest Love".
Why haven't I seen this book before?
Now, I'm glad I did.
