Princess Rubella

She awoke one snowy morning with her toes ice cold, she didn’t know that she had accidentally kicked off her duvet cover through the night. The snow was falling heavily outside and settled softly on the tips of the trees and lay deep on the ground.

She got up and dressed into her warmest clothes, she put on her lovely pink boots but didn’t seem to realize that the snow would bleach them all patchy in places, all she wanted to do was play in the snow and make a large snowman.

She looked around for some twigs for the arms and forgot to get a carrot from the kitchen for his nose, she played so happily until her cold frozen hands couldn’t take anymore, so she ventured back into her house and sat by the warm fire stove.

Once she was warm enough, she put on her favorite warm pink slippers, which had red ladybirds on them, she dressed warmly to keep her body heat.

Later that same day she sat and began to sew the pretty blanket she was making, it was made from sewed cotton patches of all different colour fabrics when she grew up, she wanted to be a garment designer, and her love for the fabric was amazing.

She sewed and sewed for hours until the blanket was complete. It was finished off with white cotton lace, she put out the stove and got her thick coat and warm boot, and headed for the village market fair, once she got there, she came across a lady who was busy sewing at her stall, she approached the lady very shyly but decided to show the lady what she had created.

The lady was overwhelmed by the beautiful blanket and asked her “Would you sell it to me “Well of course Rubella agreed and she was given, she told the lady “Now I can buy new fabric “The lady thanked the lady for her kindness and walked around looking at other pretty stalls, she came across a beautiful gold silk, “she said” “how much “the merchant told her 50 coins for the roll of silk, well she only had 40 coins.

So, with that she returned home to start baking some beautiful red strawberry tarts, she cooked for hours until she had enough to sell. She carefully placed the strawberry tarts in the basket and quickly returned to the merchant market.

She came across a bread merchant and asked him “Would you like to try my strawberry tarts “Well he gladly did and agreed that he totally enjoyed them, so he asked Rubella “Would you sell them to me” Of course, Rubella said, “10 coins if you wouldn't mind kind sir “gladly the merchant said!

Rubella was extremely happy because she knew that the gold silk was only 50 coins, so she quickly ran to the old silk stall and said, “Please is the gold silk still for sale for 50 coins” He replied, “Yes dear”.

Rubella was overwhelmed, paid 50 coins for the gold silk, thanked the stall owner, and rushed back home. Once she got back home, she quickly started making her next garment project, a beautiful gold silk robe, she sewed and sewed until the night came in, and she became so sleepy and decided to go to bed.

The next morning was a beautiful blue-sky day the snow was melting fast, she slipped on her pink slippers and carried on downstairs to cook some nice warm porridge after her breakfast she went to her sewing basket and began to continue to sew her gold silk robe, she sewed and sewed until the robe was complete it looked amazing!

She was even lucky because she still had some gold silk left over from the roll, so she decided to make a gold blanket with white silk along the edges. She began to sew again but she needed to stop after an hour, her fingers began to get sore, so she rested in front of the fireplace reading her favorite poems.

Time was getting late, so she decided to make herself some soup with some bread and a glass of milk, after she had finished her meal, she started sewing some more until it was complete.

She gazed out the window to look at the bright moon and stars in the night sky, which looked beautiful, and she went to sleep. Once she had awoken the next morning, she saw the beautiful blue sky with the sun shining down.

She decided to take the gold robe back to the merchant market and approached the lady she saw before, she said “hello dear nice to see you again “Rubella replied “I have finally finished my gold robe would you like to see it “the lady replied, “of course dear”!

She removed the golden robe from her basket and hooked it up on a hanger so the lady could clearly see it. “Oh my, “she said, “what a beautiful robe garment you have made.”

Rubella was so overwhelmed by the lady’s nice comment that she became tearful, “Don’t cry my dear, it’s really beautiful what you have created”!

The lady offered Rubella 1000 coins and a job working at her stall, Rubella couldn’t believe how lucky she was and gladly excepted the lady’s kind offer.

Rubella and the stall merchant lady worked hard together to produce such gorgeous, amazing garments to be sold on her stall, later, that year their stall became much larger and they both produced robes for the castle princesses, they sewed and sewed until they couldn’t anymore.
