Amethyst Adriana was perusing through scrolls upon scrolls, which she in the last many years of her life had collected from far and wide. Her bronze shield with leather covering laid against the wall near her heavy doorway. The broad sword, she had inherited from a dead enemy was near her...always ready, as was her dirk. Anitoli grass smelling smoke rose lazily from her ivory pipe toward the dome ceiling of her modest home in the woods of Lockshire West.“Maybe this is the one,” she mused and hoped. “Then my search will finally be over. I will have found the greatest spell ever concocted by the gods above,” she added while trying to decipher the ancient coded writings. A small notation, almost hidden on the right edge of the scroll caught her attention. “Hmmm, what is this? It looks as if it’s been added much after these texts were plumed. The ink doesn’t match the rest,” she said out loud. All excited, Amethyst quickly copied the writing onto a fresh parchment and pulled down an old dusty book from her vast collection. Many hours later she, almost on the verge of giving up, stared at hastily written notes jotted down by a long forgotten mage. Her eyes lit up as her heart beat doubled. With one hand on her heart and the other over her eyes, Amethyst shed a tear. “This has to be it! I have search for so long…this has to be it!” Fighting fatigue she began the long process of deciphering the ancient text. Morning found her sprawled out on her thick musk ox carpet. Next to her were hundreds of hand written notes scattered about. The sunlight streaming through her heavy curtains caressed her beautiful face lovingly, until she opened her hazel eyes and stared up at the ceiling absentmindedly. As she focused on nothing, images of letters circled round and around in her mind. “The gods above! I fell asleep, just when I was about to reach the end of what seemed like an endless, almost futile quest for the Axotopian Spell.” Although now, being on the edge of her greatest discovery, Amethyst decided to bide her time and hold off finalizing the data which lay before her. She was teasing herself, and got a certain pleasure out of it. Shunning all her weary clothes, she stepped out of her house and greeted the new day with renewed hope. Her round abode was hidden deep in the forest near the Pegasus Peninsula. There wasn’t another soul anywhere for miles. This was her haven, away from the rest of the troubled world, and the bloody Great War.
Birds of all sorts and butterflies followed her as she strolled barefoot down to the pond where clear blue water gurgled away merrily a mere few yards away from her home. As she eased herself into the shallow pool of refreshing liquid, small fish came up to cleanse the dirt and dead skin which had accumulated on her, over the last few days and nights. The sensation was invigorating and most pleasant, as the tiny cleaner fish tickled and carried out their duties. Amethyst took time to gently wash her long raven hair. She used care not to pollute the water. She was conscious about her lovely surroundings. Not wishing to compromise any of it, or cause harm to her many small friends there.
Back at the house she donned a loose fitting dress, red and gold being her favorite colors. While munching on a delicious fruit, which she picked off a tree on her way back up from her delightful bath, she sat back down on the rug to review all her notations. Mmm, let’s see. This makes sense. Not too sure about this part, but I can try a small test, she thought to herself, as she flung to fruit pit into the fireplace without looking up. She stood up and braced herself as she muttered a few magical words. Nothing happened. Somewhat disappointed Amethyst sat back down and re-read her notes, made a few very small adjustments, and got back on her feet again. This time after uttering more magic words, there was a hissing sound, and to her amazement the spell worked. She almost swooned from excitement. The walls of her home vanished, yet all the paintings and decoration remained where they were, hanging on what seemed to be nothing. A curious bee came by, but it was stopped from entering by an invisible force. This gorgeous Amazon was barely able to contain herself as she silently chanted the spell in reverse. The walls quickly reappeared. She was beside herself. Wanting to test this new found power, she stepped out doors and spoke those words again. This time everything around her turned into something resembling a water color painting gone wrong. Rainbow colors swirled and ran riot. It was what she was aiming for, and she was greatly pleased with the result. Swimming, or more like flying, Amethyst explored this canvas, feeling and submerging herself into the delicious vista. Satisfied that she found what she searched for nearly all her conscious life, Amethyst, reversed the spell and re-entered her home to plan her next course. Should I return to the front, where all the fighting is, or should I simply move on? she questioned herself. She decided on enjoying her new found powers, and to continue her hiatus. She was weary of all the fighting on the other side of her world. “The battles can wait...at least for awhile. Yes...a nice rest would do me a world of good. And I can take my time to hone my new talent… to perfect it,” Amethyst Adriana said audibly, as she danced around gleefully.
