Only one lifetime.
Chapter one. A new life.
‘Hey Danny wait up.’ But I didn’t hear the familiar voice, which belonged to my new friend and first friend that I had ever made at this ridiculously fancy school. I had moved here two months ago, with my family to our new house in Australia and I have already made friends with one of the most popular guys at school… Sam Myers and he is unbelievably cute. He has short blond hair that comes just past his ears, to form a surfer’s haircut. He has blue eyes and a dark brown tan.
‘Hey Danny are you listening to me?’ Sam reached out and grabbed my hand. Both Sam and I are in year eleven at St Wilfred high in the Illawarra. It is an expensive school and only the rich go here, but you get the occasional lucky person that will receive a scholarship. However I wasn’t one of those lucky people, she was one of the rich kids that moved over here from America.
‘Oh sorry Sam. I was day dreaming… sorry.’ I smiled up at Sam, who politely smiled back. I’m small compared to Sam who towered me like a monster. I guess I’m beautiful in many ways, I have long blond hair that almost goes to the middle of my back, and I have brown eyes and a light tan. That I wish to work on later this afternoon.
‘That’s okay, what were you day dreaming about today? Is it your old home and how much you miss it or your new home and how cool it is, or maybe something completely different like the hottest guy in school… Me?’ Sam chuckled and pulled me along toward my homeroom.
‘In your dreams Sam, the only time that I think of you is when I want to be sick.’ I giggled and smiled nicely at Sam.
‘Aren’t you hilarious.’ Sam said sarcastically, I just smiled and continued to walk along side Sam, hoping that I would remember the way to her homeroom tomorrow.
‘So what has been on your mind?’
‘Oh nothing really.’ Not that I was going to tell him what has been on my mind. How do you tell a guy that you like them? Oh well I guess there is plenty of time.
‘Come on there has to be a better excuse than that?’ Sam laughed and looked down at me.
‘Nope I don’t think there is, and even it there was I cant think of any.’ It is only the first day of school and I have a new best friend who is totally bananas.
It feels like primary school all over again. I moved to new schools a lot because I used to get in trouble and my parents thought it would be good if I got a fresh start. And I would always have weird guy friends that always thought that they were the hottest things in the world, but they were wrong Sam was the hottest guy I’ve ever known and he doesn’t try and show off because he has good looks.
‘Danny I want you to meet someone.’ Sam pulled me over to a boy with long black hair that covered most of his face.
‘Danny this is Tom and last year he was the new guy, I guess that makes you the new guy… or should I say girl this year.’ Sam snickered at me.
‘Hi, like he said I’m Tom. Its nice to meet you and thank you… finally I can move on with my life.’ Tom said in a ruff deep voice.
‘Its nice to meet you to.’ I managed to spit out. I wasn’t really keen on Scene Kidz, but who knows I might be judging a book by its cover.
‘Why did you move to Australia?’ Tom asked trying to be nice.
‘Because my Dad got a new job and that meant that we had to move, and at first I wasn’t happy about it but it was not my choice to say wether we stayed in America or moved, but at the moment I’m happy I did move to here.’
‘Are happy because I’m here and I’m the hottest guy in the world.’ Sam joked.
‘You wish.’ But you know what that was true. I did love being here with the hottest guy in the world, and I would not trade it for any thing in the world.
My favourite subject is first period and that is sport. I wonder what we do for sport? Oh I hope it is surfing but I’m probably not that lucky.
‘Hey Sam what do you have first period?’
‘I believe I have sport with you.’
Yes I have sport with Sam now I really hope that we do surfing because that would be the only way I could get a perve. I wonder what he looks like in a swimsuit. Oh my God I hope he doesn’t have a wet suit tan! But I guess I would get a good laugh out of it.
After homeroom, I was in another daze. I was known to be out of it sometimes at my old school, but it was like only once a day and it was always in the morning. ‘Now what are you thinking about? You strange person you.’ Sam’s eyebrows merged together to form a frown.
‘What do you think?’
‘Um is it me?’
‘Maybe, even if it was you I wouldn’t tell you. You sad person.’ I snickered.
‘Why don’t you just become a comedian?’
‘Because then I wouldn’t be able to make a jokes about you being an idiot.’
‘Ha, ha, ha.’ Sam sarcastically laughed at me.
‘Any way what way is the gym?’
‘This way.’
We headed around a large brick wall and there it was a massive gym. By the looks of it they even have a swimming pool, I think I’m in heaven. When I first moved to Australia a heard that none of the schools have pools over here, but I guess I was wrong. I even remember the first week that we moved here I was looking at some pamphlets and none of them had a picture of a pool. At the moment I’m glad that I was able to convince my Dad to let me come to this school.
Once inside the gym I headed for the change rooms not remembering that I didn’t have any swimmers with me, but before I got anywhere near the change rooms my gym teacher stopped me and pulled me over to one side.
My teacher was tall with black hair man, with blue eyes and pale skin and he had a small cute smile that could win over almost any girl’s heart.
‘Hello, Miss Johnson. I’m Mr. Mallon and I will be your P.E. teacher for the next year and a bit.’ Mr. Mallon looked down at me and extended his hand toward me. I took it reluctantly and shook it.
‘I have read your records from your previous school and I was wondering if you would like to sign up for the swim team.’ Mr. Mallon asked.
‘Yeah sure I would love to. I have been training since I was just a baby.’ I smiled and took a small step back.
‘Good, we need more girls on the team. At least you will know one person on the team.’ Mr. Mallon looked behind me.
‘Who would that be?’ I asked without thinking.
‘Sam.’
‘Oh really, I didn’t know that he swam for the team.’ I said and looked over my shoulder, where I found Sam standing behind me. Oh my god he looked even hotter in swimmers. Sam had a six-pack and the most beautiful tan, it was even and dark. I started to laugh when I thought of the name of the swimmers that he was wearing… budgie smugglers.
‘What are you laughing at?’ Sam gave me a strange look.
‘I’m laughing at you.’ I continued to giggle at him.
‘Why?’
‘Because your wearing budgie smugglers.’ I giggled.
‘That isn’t funny, every guy on the team wears budgie smugglers.’ Sam shook his head and then joined in with me in laughing. We were laughing together and as I looked in the corner of my eye, I noticed that people were giving us strange looks, as if we were loonies. This made us laugh even harder. Eventually Mr. Mallon came over and broke us up.
‘What is going on here, Mr. Myers?’ he said seriously.
‘Um… nothing Sir. Danny told me a joke that is all, it was a good one.’ Sam smiled down at me and gave me a small wink.
‘Well it’s class time, not joke time. Next time Miss Johnson tell it after class and not in my time or I will waste you time at lunch time.’ Mr. Mallon gave me a small sneer.
‘Sorry Sir I will remember that for next time.’ I said trying not to laugh.
‘Good.’ He marched away. Sam and I tuned toward each other and giggled quietly this time. After another minute, Sam turned and walked away still giggling like a schoolgirl. Sam paused at the edge of the pool and talked to some of his other friends, one at a time the all shot a long glance- maybe it was more of a stare- at me. After another few minutes Sam dove into the water and started to do laps, with his friends.
It was good getting a fresh start, the beginning of a new life in Australia almost the most beautiful place on earth, what more could you ask for. There is great beaches, beautiful forests and the wildlife is unbelievable and did I mention the surf.
The whole first period I got to sit on a bench and watch Sam and the rest of the class do laps and I also got to cheer for Sam for my only friend Sam. However one girl came over to me, from another class and had a very short conversation with me.
‘Hey there, I’m Bella. When did you move here?’ She smiled and sat next to me.
‘Hi I’m Danny and I moved here two months ago, from America.’ I politely smiled at her.
‘Oh my god, I went there last year, for a holiday. Its beautiful over there.’ She smiled even more brightly at me.
‘Cool.’
‘I see that you hanging out with Sam, isn’t he absolutely gorgeous?’
‘I know and he is such a great guy, for a friend anyway.’ I looked over at Sam who was paused at one end of the pool.
‘Is that all you two are, just friends?’
‘Yeah, why do you want to know?’ I looked into her light brown eyes and felt something dark and sinister creep out.
‘Just wondering that’s all. Anyway I’ve got to go.’ Bella stood and walked toward her friends. What a strange girl, all questions and no real answers. I began to wonder why she was asking me about Sam and I. Maybe it looks like we are going out. Who really knows what is going through that strange girls mind. After a few minutes of watching Bella return to her class, I turned around and looked for Sam. He was no longer in the pool, as I looked for him I felt a strange dripping sensation on my head. What the hell is doing that to me? I reluctantly turned around and found Sam standing over me shaking his head all over me. That got us laughing again; and once more people stared at us and gave us strange looks, and you know what I didn’t care. I was in a happy mood today, for the first time in a long time.
After class I waited for Sam, not knowing where my next class would be. The school is quiet large and knowing me I would get lost. Sam laughed as he exited the change rooms; he had a large smile on his face.
‘Why are you so happy?’ I asked him.
‘Because I have made a lot of the boys in our year jealous for the first time.’ He laughed and looked behind him to see another guy exit the change rooms.
‘What are they jealous of?’ I asked not sure if it was the right thing to do.
‘You.’ Sam looked down at me and smiled a most beautiful smile. I think my heart just skipped a beat.
‘Why?’
‘Because they think that you are pretty hot for a new girl and because they want to be with you and they know that they can’t, because I called dibs.’ Sam continued to smile, what did he just say. That he had called dibs... what was his problem no one calls dibs on a girl.
‘If you don’t mind me saying but you don’t have DIBS on me, if you did that would make us boyfriend and girlfriend and I’m pretty sure that you haven’t asked me a question like that.’
‘I tried to explain that we didn’t have anything going on between us.’ Sam grabbed my hand and pulled me toward the exit. I sighed and allowed him to pull me out of the door and into a small grassed area.
‘Oh well, they will get over it.’ I sighed once more.
‘What room are you in?’ I looked up into Sam’s blue eyes.
‘I believe I’m in room thirty-one and that is on the other side of the school. What about you?’ Sam smiled and held my gaze.
‘I’m in room sixteen, and I have no clue where that is.’ I looked away from him and at the large crowd of students heading our way.
‘I will take to your next class, if that is alright.’ Sam continued to smile, while he dragged me to the other side of the school. By the looks of it I didn’t have a choice if he took to me to class or not.
‘Well here is your room.’ Sam pointed to a red door with a large golden sixteen on it.
‘Thanks.’ I smiled up at Sam and removed my hand from his.
‘Does this mean I can kiss you goodbye?’ Sam asked.
‘I think that would be pushing your luck.’ I looked away from his deep blue eyes.
‘Oh really, I would be pushing my luck would I?’ Sam moved closer to me, which made my heart race and I felt my face burn bright red. It made Sam chuckle.
‘Are you going to be here when class is finished?’
‘Of course, would I let you get lost on your first day?' Sam brushed some of my hair off my face.
‘I guess not.’ I smiled.
‘See nothing to fear.’
Sam began to walk away after that, but after a meter or two he turned around and came toward me.
‘By the way you are pretty hot.’ Sam came really close to my face and kissed me on the cheek.
‘Um…’ I was totally taken by surprised and I didn’t know what to say. Sam laughed when I didn’t say something and I when my face turned an even brighter red. After a few minutes standing quietly looking down at the ground, I made my feet move toward the classroom. I had science, my second favorite class.
I sat down in the only seat available, which was next to a small girl with glasses. She had dark brown hair and dark brown eyes. She was nice to me, and talked to me until the teacher started the lesson.
Science past in a blur, maybe it was due to the fact I couldn’t concentrate on the work and I let my mind drift to when Sam had kissed me. The hottest guy in the world kissed me. I sighed one last time just as the bell for lunch went.
When I walked out of the room, I found Sam leaning on the wall outside my classroom door. Sam looked more like a God than a normal human.
‘Hey there. How was science?’ Sam spoke first.
‘I don’t think that I got any work done because of you.’ I admitted with a sigh.
‘What did you like my smooth charms?’
‘Something like that.’ I smiled and looked down at the small garden.
‘Sweet. I’m a ladies man.’ Sam laughed and began to walk toward the other side of the school.
‘What ever floats your boat.’ I giggled and walked along side of him.
‘You know it does.’ He smiled and continued to walk.
‘Okay, okay lets just get some food. I’m starving.’
‘Alright this way to the canteen.’ Australia has weird names for things, like back at home we have cafeteria’s not canteens.
During lunch Sam seemed to be deep in his thoughts, as we sat with his friends. I couldn’t remember all of their names, but they all seemed nice enough.
‘What are you thinking?’ I asked no longer able to stand the silence between us.
‘I’m just thinking about not staying at school for the rest of the day. You could come with me and we could hang at my place, my parents wouldn’t be home till five. That could give us some time to spend together before we go to the party.’
‘Wait… what party?’ I asked not sure what he was talking about.
‘The party at Austin’s place.’
‘I can’t go, I wasn’t invited.’ I shook my head and looked down at the grass that we sat on.
‘Well I just invited you.’ Sam laughed and handed me a piece of paper. With the time that the party starts and where it would be held.
‘Okay I will go home with you, but before we go to the party you have to let me go home and get changed.’ I looked over at Sam.
‘Of course, do you think that I would let you go to the party in your school uniform?’ Sam smiled and lifted me off the ground.
‘What type of party is it?’ I asked as we headed for the school car park.
‘A beach party.’ Sam said enthusiastically.
‘Sounds like it would be fun.’ I smiled and looked around the car park, no one was around, no teachers and no other students.
‘It sure will be. You have never be to a party till you have been to one of Austin’s.’ Sam laughed and paused under a tree. I nodded and looked around me once more; making sure that no one could see us sneaking out of the school. Sam smiled and inclined his head to a blue car. Sam slowly walked over to the passenger door and opened it. I smiled nicely and jumped into the car.
‘I hope you like fast cars.’ Sam said as he jumped behind the driving wheel.
‘I sure do I grew up with Holden cars.’ I smiled and looked over at Sam as he pulled out of the school parking lot. Sam drove toward the highway and then turned left and began to head south toward his place. I had been to Sam’s place once before, when his family had been out shopping but I had met his parents when we first moved into the house next door to his. I looked out the window and watched the world as we drove past; I was memorized when we drove past the beach. It was so beautiful and calm; I was so wrapped up in the view I didn’t hear Sam when he started asking questions.
‘Do you like to swim?’ Sam asked for the second time.
‘Yeah, I have been swimming since I was a little girl. I love the water as well, if I were to ever die and be able to come back as an animal I would come back as a sea creature.’ I smiled out the window.
‘Mm, but I guess you won’t be dyeing for a while, so it will remain a dream for a very long time.’ Sam said as he turned onto our street.
‘Yeah, but it is a good dream.’ I sighed and looked over at Sam.
‘Do you mind being called DJ?’ Sam asked changing the subject. We were just meters away from Sam house, when I answered.
‘I used to get called that at my old school and I hated it. So yes I do mind.’ I said a little bit annoyed.
‘Oh okay then Danny.’ Sam stretched out my name more than he needed to. We were both silent for a moment as Sam parked the car in his drive way. I thought of a question that I could ask Sam once I had jumped out of the car, and I wasn’t sure what Sam was going to say.
‘If you don’t mind me asking. Did you really mean what you said before class?’
‘What that your really hot.’
‘Yeah.’ I said looking down at my feet.
‘Yes, I meant it. Would I lie to you?’ Sam came around to my side of the car and smiled down at me.
‘No…yes. I really don’t know.’
‘There is nothing to be afraid of.’ He placed his hand under my chin and lifted my head so that it now sat high.
‘Why would I be afraid and what should I be afraid of?’ I tilted my head to the side and looked at Sam from a different angel. Sam’s hand dropped from my face and down to his side.
‘I don’t want you to be afraid, but you should be scared of me.’ Sam sighed and walked to the front door and unlocked it.
‘Why would I be scared of you?’ I ran after him.
‘No particular reason.’ He opened the door and held it open for me.
Sam’s house is massive and beautiful; I think that Sam might be the richest person on earth. The house had two stories with palm trees on ether side of the house. It was painted a ivory cream colour, with green trimming around the windows and doors. It was gorgeous. I wished that my house looked like this, but I guess I can’t have everything I want.
‘Did I ever tell you that your house is beautiful?’ I smiled and looked around the front foyer.
‘No I don’t think you have, and thank you.’ Sam smiled and threw his bag down. ‘What would you like to do?’ Sam asked.
‘I don’t mind, as long as it is fun.’
‘Okay would you like to go for a swim?’
‘That would be good, but I don’t have any swimmers.’
‘You could borrow my sisters swimmers, it looks like you would fit into them, or you could swim nude.’ Sam started to giggle.
‘I think I will borrow you sisters swimmers.’ I smiled; I never knew that Sam had a sister. Every time that I had been here I had never seen any other girl in the house other than Sam’s mother.
‘Aw. Your no fun.’ Sam joked and pulled me up the stairs toward his sister’s bedroom, once inside he pointed to the closet and then walked out of the room. Giving me privacy. Slowly and not so reluctantly I opened the door, revealing a large wardrobe full of very expensive clothes. I looked around for a moment looking for the place where she left her swimmers, when I finally found a pair swimmers they weren’t like any swimmers I have ever seen. It looked like the swimmers that movie stars wore, it was a full piece but with the sides missing.
I walked over to the mirror when I had put the swimmers; I thought that I was the ugliest person alive with my blond hair, lightly tanned skin and long legs that rarely complemented any dress. I thought that Sam wouldn’t notice if I wrapped a towel around me and got in the pool quickly after him. I sighed and walked down the stairs, I found Sam in the kitchen grabbing himself a drink.
‘Hey, there.’ I smiled and placed my school bag down near the bench.
‘Would you like a drink?’
‘No thanks, maybe later.’
‘Okay the pool is this way.’ Sam placed his drink on the bench and led me outside. We walked through some glass doors and out into a large back yard with no fence. The pool looked like a fifty-meter pool with a spa connected to it, it was so cool.
‘Are you some sort of movie star?’ I asked.
‘No, but my Dad owns a movie studio and he has made some good investments.’
‘Wow, cool.’ I smiled and walked over to the pool and felt the temperature of the water. Sam jumped into the water and swam underwater to the far side of the pool. I unwrapped the towel around me and walked over to the side of the pool, to where a small diving block sat on the edge of the pool. Sam came to the surface at the other side of the pool and looked at me with a large grin on his face.
‘I look terrible don’t I?’
‘No you look… how can I out this? You look so attractive in those swimmers.’ Sam’s smiled grew even brighter.
‘Thanks.’ I guess.
‘Are you going to get into the pool or what?’ Sam yelled at me. I nodded and climbed onto the small diving block; I jumped into the pool and came to surface just centimeters away from Sam’s body, when I looked up at Sam he had a kind of surprised look on his face. I giggled like a small schoolgirl when he didn’t say anything.
‘Are you okay?’ I continued to giggle.
‘Um… yeah.’ He said after a few seconds. This made me giggled even harder, which didn’t impress Sam.
Sam grabbed me by the waist and pulled me close, his warm body sent tingles up my spine, when I shivered just the tinniest bit Sam burst into laughter.
‘Now we are even.’ He said still laughing, I tried to free myself from Sam strong grasp but I failed miserably. Sam looked me in the eyes; it was like he could see into my soul, then next thing I know we are kissing. It felt so warm and intense; Sam pulled me up onto his waist and held me there, we stayed like that for a moment locked in each other’s lips. When Sam released me, I looked up at Sam and stared for a moment.
‘You’re a good kisser.’ I accidently said out loud.
‘Why thank you.’ he laughed and finally freed me, I was able to swim to the edge of the pool and catch my breath. Sam followed quickly behind me.
‘Don’t think that you can get away from me that easily.’ Sam laughed.
‘We will see.’ I sighed and swam away from me.
I swam as fast as I could, but Sam followed casually behind me, keeping up without effort. I felt something warm slip over my ankle and it pulled hard, which brought me back into Sam’s body. I struggled once more against his strong grasp and achieved nothing Sam was unbelievably strong. Sam pulled me up into his arms and then he began to walk up the pool steps and over to a deck chair, where he placed me down with no effort at all and kissed me again. Sam’s body pinned me between the chair and his really warm body, as he kissed me he worked his hand up and under the strap on the swimmers.
‘Sam!’ we stopped what we were doing and turned to where the voice came from.
‘Grace?’ Sam said with shock on his face and then he slowly got off me.
‘Who is this slut your with now!’ she growled at us.
‘Danny isn’t a slut, so back off. You cannot choose who I date.’ He growled back. Grace inclined her head and walked away with her noise in the air.
Sam sighed and turned his attention back to me.
‘Who was that?’ I asked.
‘Grace, my sister. She hates me dating or even hanging out with people like you.’ he shook his head
‘What do you mean people like me?’
‘Can we talk about this later, I think you should go home.’ Sam sighed and extended his hand toward me.
‘Okay, I guess I will walk home.’ I smiled and got off the chair and grabbed my towel and dried myself off.
‘Are you sure you don’t want a lift home?’ Sam asked as he walked me to the front door.
‘I will be fine, just don’t forget to pick me up so we can go to the party.’ I smiled and walked out the front door, without saying goodbye to him.
When I arrived home my mum was frantic, she was running up and down the hallway and yelling at my father to call the school.
‘Where have you been?’ she screamed at me.
‘I was at Sam’s place, we were just doing some homework.’ I lied, not wanting them to know that I wagged my first day at school. It’s a Friday night and my mum is freaking out, she used to be fine when I didn’t return home until twelve o’clock at my old place. ‘I’m going to a party tonight.’ I informed my parents and marched up to my bedroom. I went straight for a shower but all I could think about was Sam and how he said ‘people like you.’ What did he mean by people like me is there some thing more to Sam Meyer’s than meets the eye or is it because I’m not like him rich and every thing? I don’t know there is some thing strange about it that’s all I can say.
The hot water stretched out my muscles and made me feel less stressed out. Once I got out of the shower I wrapped my towel around my body then I walked into my closet I walked around looking for I cute outfit to wear and I found my favorite dress and my cork shoes. I put them on along with the swimmers from before seems as Sam’s sister didn’t notice I was wearing them and if Sam liked me wearing them I was going to wear them. I put some makeup on then I walked down stairs and my mum and dad were having dinner.
‘Who is the luck guy?’ my mother asked turning around in her seat and scrutinizing my outfit.
‘Mum!’ I shook my head.
‘Sorry I was just curious that’s all.’ She smiled and went back to her dinner.
‘Just don’t embarrass me when he gets here.’ I sighed and leaned on the wall. Not even five minutes had past when I heard the knock on the front door. I opened it and found Sam standing there with a large smile on his face.
‘Are you ready to go?’ Sam asked being polite.
‘Yep ready and excited.’ I smiled and walked out the front door and into the light of the porch light.
‘You look beautiful tonight.’ Sam grabbed my hand and kissed it.
‘Thank you.’ I smiled ever so nicely.
He headed to his car and he opened my door as always I smiled politely and he giggled. When we pulled out of my driveway, and we headed to the highway I turned to see what he looked like he had a blue shirt on with half the buttons undone with black jeans and white shoes all together a great combination. ‘What’s the matter don’t I match you out fit?’ Sam asked after he noticed I was staring at him, and the funny thing was he did match what I was wearing. I was wearing my favorite blue dress and white high heels
‘Actually you do and that’s not why I was staring at you I was trying to see what you looked like tonight.’ I blushed fire hydrant red.
‘Sorry, it is going to take awhile to get to Austin’s place for the party.’
‘Why doesn’t he live around here?’
‘No he lives about an hour away from here that is why the party starts at seven thirty.’
‘Okay cool.’
‘Yeah my cousin loves throwing parties. He will give any excuse to have one.’
‘He’s your cousin.’
‘Yeah and tonight the party excuse is there is a new arrival to Australia.’
‘Who me?’
‘Yes you.’
‘Um I’m not good being in the spot light.’
‘Don’t worry I will be with you every step of the way.’
‘Thank you.’
‘It is alright, I’m always here to serve.’
‘Thank you. By the way what did you mean by people like me before?’
‘Don’t worry about it now I will tell you tomorrow, because I want to show you something. So why don’t you just have a great time.’
‘Okay I will try my best.’ I sighed and looked out the window of the car.
It took half an hour to forty-five minutes to get to Sam’s cousins place, and it was absolutely beautiful here. Where ever we were.
‘We are here.’ Sam whispered over the music in the car.
‘That didn’t feel like an hour.’ I smiled over at him.
‘It wasn’t, because I knew where all the short cuts were.’ Sam laughed.
‘His house is as beautiful as you’re house and it is on the beach, Oh My God look at the view!’
‘Yeah Austin loves the beach.’
‘Cool.’
‘Please don’t tell me your going to go for Austin now.’ Sam groaned out of annoyance.
‘No you’re the only person for me!’ I giggled softly.
‘That sounded so corny.’
‘I know.’ I beemed.
We got out of the car and walked up the stone pathway to the house we didn’t even knock on the door and it opened, but there was no one even behind it. Sam just giggled at me. So I just hit him on the arm.
‘Hey what was that for?’
‘You laughing at me.’ I snickered. That set us of laughing again. A boy came around the corner I think it was Austin by the look of him he was really related to Sam he had the same body build and he had a bit of the same puppy face as Sam as well.
‘Hey there cousin.’ Austin said
‘Hey, this is Danny the girl I told you about.’
Austin looked me up and down. Then grabbed my hand and kissed it
‘So this is the beautiful girl that has caught my dear cousins eye.’
‘Hi I’m Danny.’
‘How rude of me I’m Austin.’ I think that Sam gave Austin weird look because he just smiled and said, ‘Don’t worry cousin she is all yours I’m not going to move in on your territory.’ He started to giggle
‘You better not move in on my territory this time.’ It sounded like a growl came out of his chest but I couldn’t be sure so I ignored it. I wonder what they meant by there territory.
‘Would you like a drink or anything?’ Sam asked.
‘Sure, why not.’ I looked up and into his ocean blue eyes.
‘Alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks?’
‘Non, if you don’t mind.’ I smiled and looked over at Austin, who looked between Sam and I.
‘Sure, I will go get you something.’ Sam said then disappeared around the corner, which left me alone with Austin. Who gave me a creepy smile.
Sam came back around the corner with a coke and a beer either hand and said ‘here you go I don’t think you need any more sugar in you. Your sweet enough with out it.’
‘You thought what I said earlier was corny well you’re just as bad as me.’
‘You can say that again.’
‘Come on lets go sit down.’
‘Okay, lead the way.’
Sam lead the way around the house to the backyard and the pool was just as big as his but the only thing that is different was that you got the view of the beach down bellow. I noticed that there was stairs leading the way down to the beach. It was memorising and it was just Sam and I who were sharing this view together at the moment. I walked over to the handrail and looked at the sunset, Sam came over and wrapped his arm around my waist I turned to face him and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
’It is beautiful isn’t it?’ I smiled and looked back over at the sunset. Sam looked at me for a moment.
‘Not as beautiful as you.’ Sam replied and after a few minutes he continued. ‘Danny will you officially be my girlfriend?’
I thought that I was going in sane, did I hear him correctly. We have only known each other for two months, should I say yes?
‘Yes.’ I smiled up at him and rested my head on his shoulder.
‘Thank you.’ Sam whispered into my ear. After a few minutes of not talking just enjoying the moment Sam picked me up into his arms and walked over to the side of the pool, where he held me over the edge.
‘DON’T. YOU. DARE!’ I screeched, which caused Sam to chuckle and throw me up in the air then catch me again.
‘Please put me down.’ I squealed as Sam walked over to the chair and placed me down gently then he started kissing me again. Some people walked into the back yard and saw us.
‘Hey the party hasn’t even started yet save it for later.’ Sam and I looked at each other and sighed.
‘Next time we should go some where privet where no one could interrupt us.’ Sam said.
‘Okay.’ I giggled. I got up and walk or power walked to where the path to the beach was and kicked off my shoes and looked over my shoulder at Sam and think he got the idea he got pretty quickly and followed behind. Once I knew he was following I quickly hid in the bushes he walked by and I quietly came out of hiding and followed him once we were on the beach, it looked like he was looking for me then next thing I know I’m in his arms getting walked down to the shore and he placed me down just as gentle as before and he walked into the water. He turned around and looked me in the eye.
‘Do you trust me?’ Sam spoke softly.
‘Yes what is a matter?’
‘I will tell you tomorrow, tonight is your night I do not want to wreck it.’
‘Um okay.’ I hated seeing him like this, so I kicked some water at him and that got him smiling again. Sam went to kick some water back at me but I was to quick for him and I ran down the shore with Sam on my tail, he was so fast he past me and he just kept running a head then he stoped suddenly and turned around before I could stop, he picked me up and rain us back down to the other side of the beach. Where he threw me into the shallow water and started to laugh at me so this time I chased him all the way back to the pool were the party was only getting started, Sam jumped into the pool with his clothes still on. I just stood there starring at him I think he was surprised that I didn’t go in after him. I took my dress off then I went in after him lucky I brought my swimmers; I dived in and swam over to Sam.
We were the only two idiots in the pool, but we were having fun and isn’t that what you are meant to do at a parties. We decided to stay in the pool for what seemed hours then we got out, once I got out Austin had towels for Sam and me. He threw Sam’s towel at him and placed my towel around my shoulders, I looked at Sam and Sam made that growling noise again. What was with that seriously it was weird.
‘Sam what is the time?’
‘Um it is eleven. Why?’
‘I was just curious that’s all.’
‘Okay.’ Sam walked inside to get a change of clothes. And left me alone, I put my dress and shoes back on and walked over to the handrail and looked at the moon, I wasn’t alone for long the girl from first period came up to me and started talking to me again.
‘Hey Danny, it still doesn’t look like you and Sam are just friends.’
‘I know that’s because we are going out now.’
‘Oh Okay. I have to go now.’
‘Bye.’
‘Hey Danny.’
‘Hey Austin what are you up to now?’
‘I just wanted to talk to you and see how you’re liking your party?’
‘It is great you done a great job thank you.’
‘That’s okay what did Sam’s ex girlfriend want from you?’
‘That was Sam’s ex!’
‘Yeah didn’t you know that?’
‘No it isn’t like Sam has seen me talking to her.’ actually he had today at the pool.
‘Can I show you some thing?’
‘Sure what is it?’
‘It is a surprise a welcome gift you could say.’
‘Okay. Were is it?’
‘This way.’
He led me inside, then up the stairs he lead me past the toilet and into a room were there was a small box with a red ribbon on it on the bed. Austin grabbed it and handed it to me. I opened it and inside was a ring with a blue diamond on it, I placed on my finger and turned around to face Austin and he was standing really close to me it scared the hell out of me. Austin started to laugh I didn’t understand why he was laughing but I didn’t want to ask.
‘Thanks for the present.’
‘Do you like it?’
‘Yes thank you.’
‘That’s good to hear.’ he smiled sinisterly at me.
Austin cupped his hands around my face and tried to kiss me, however I broke free of his grasp and headed towards the door but before I could even open it he had me around the waist and pulling me towards the bed. I started to try kicking my way free but he was too strong. I was screaming for help but no one could hear me, over the load music blaring down stairs.
He started to lift my dress which caused me to scream for Sam but I thought he couldn’t hear me. Austin started to take his pants off this made me scream even louder, I could hear someone trying to open the door but it was locked, next thing I hear is a loud cracking noise coming from the door then a loud fierce growling coming from what it looked like Sam. Austin automatically let go of me and turned around to face him, they started to fight each other. Pulled my dress back on and turned around to see that Sam and Austin were still going at it, I decided to hide on the floor where I thought it was safer.
‘Lets take this outside.’ Sam growled like a savage.
‘Fine.’ Austin turned on his heel and marched out the door with Sam following close behind. I tried to keep pace with them as they went down stairs and I was keeping up fine until a hand came out of nowhere and pulled me towards the kitchen.
‘Grace.’ I said a little bit croaky.
‘If I was you I wouldn’t followed them, when Sam and Austin get into a fight it gets pretty messy.’ Grace pushed me into a bench.
‘Stay here with me. Would you like a drink?’ Grace gave me a weak smile.
‘Yes please.’ my throat was dry and sore from all the screaming I did, I was scared and confused. Grace nodded and grabbed a drink from the fridge beside us. Grace handed me a bottle of cold water and I drank at least half of it in one gulp, as the cold liquid went down my throat it felt as if it were putting out a fire.
‘Does that feel better?’ Grace asked.
‘Yes it does thank you.’
‘That’s all right. By the way I’m sorry about earlier today.’ Grace looked down at the ground.
‘That’s okay, you weren’t the first person to call me a slut.’ I sighed and tried to give her a convincing smile.
‘Okay, but I’m still sorry.’
‘Don’t be. Can I please go find Sam now.’ I said getting antsy.
‘Um… hold on one minute.’ She said and looked at a tall, dark haired guy. I swear I have seen him before, however I can’t remember where.
‘They should be finished fighting by now.’ he looked down at me.
Grace stepped out of my way and let me pass, the tall dark haired guy and Grace followed quickly and quietly behind me.
I walked out the front and I found Sam heading back this way without his shirt on. He had some large cuts on his body and a swollen lip, I ran over to his side.
‘Are you okay?’
‘Yeah I’m fine what about you?’
‘I’m fine thanks to you. Thank you’
‘No problem.’
‘Your arm, it has a massive cut on it. I will call and ambulance.’ I said reaching for my phone, but only to be stopped by Sam.
‘I’m fine. Don’t worry about me, it should be fine in the morning.’ Sam spoke softly, like a caress on the cheek.
‘What happened to your cousin?’
‘Don’t worry he wont bother you anymore.’ Sam pushed my hair off my face, with his clean hand.
‘Thank you, I owe you my life.’ I sobbed, feeling the tears building up in my eyes.
‘No you don’t.’ Sam raised his hand to my face to wipe away a tear that began to fall down my cheek.
‘Where is your shirt and your pants they are practically shredded. Sam what is going on?’ I asked looking around me, to find that everyone had left.
‘Come on lets go home.’ Sam slid his hand into mine and pulled me toward where he had parked the car, earlier that night.
‘Sam please tell me what is going on.’ I cried out.
‘Danny please don’t ask anything just yet. I promise I will explain later but first I have to get you out of here.’ Sam opened my door and gave me a small shove to get into the car. Sam ran over to the driver’s side of the car and quickly and swiftly jumped in. As we drove home, both Sam and I remain quiet; we were both deep in thought.
I began to wonder why Sam made growling noises when he is angry, maybe he is crazy or something and he thinks that he is an animal. What about his clothes, what happened to them? Did Austin have a knife or something sharp? I wonder if Austin and Sam get into fights often because Grace said that when they get into fight that it gets pretty messy, that’s for sure. Then I still don’t know what he meant by people like me.
Right now there is so many things that I don’t understand about Sam, in some ways I don’t want to know and in other ways I need to know, because I think I seriously like this guy. But would Sam let me in on the secret that he and his family keeps so quiet from everyone else, it might be nothing and just my imagination playing tricks on me, but it could be something serious and life threatening.
