Blood is thicker than water!!! Water flows, blood not. If it flows, we are upset and we faint. Blood relation also??? why not a son faints if father and mother are in a pool of blood.. or in the hospital as patients starving for food? The hardest thing is choosing the right person to love. When we're young, love comes easily and at light speed. We're drawn to those who we perceive as being beautiful, whether it's a physical attractiveness, or a beauty that comes from the right set of traits - an amazing sense of humor, unusual athleticism, kind behavior, even popularity or what we think of as tragic flaws.
Whatever the reason, when we meet those who make our hearts beat a little faster, our breath a little shorter, or our emotions catch fire, we go blind. Only our outer eye and fantasy circuits seem to work for a while, while common sense, wisdom, and the ability to take good advice get covered under a lead blanket.
Every once in a while, that rush of what we think of as love will - miraculously - bring us to the right person, and the result will be a forever friendship that can easily turn to eternal love. But most of the time, that love will instead become a cruel teacher, one that shows us the dangers of making all the wrong choices and thereby - hopefully - teach us to make better ones the next time.
When we're young, our emotions are flames, chemicals in our brains that don't understand moderation. They scream, "Yes! Yes! Do this! Doesn't it feel awesome?" They don't listen to the calmer voice saying, "Hold on a minute. Have you noticed how this person has treated others like you? How he (or she) seems to leave broken hearts behind everywhere?" But the fire inside that makes every little thing seem like life or death, that rips through our feelings with no regard for intellect, blocks out that calmer voice and plays with the physical reactions we get when we're attracted to another. Enhances them. Make them seem more important than anything else and disregards the folly of instant gratification.
Thus, when we're young, we find ourselves learning the hard way that we aren't here to "fix" other people, or to change them, or to convince them that they want what they think they don't. We aren't here to melt them into something that will love only us and no other, and why? Because they're experiencing that same intense conflict within, and because we all grow up in different circumstances, what might seem the right road to one, is entirely wrong and undesirable for another.
So we get our hearts broken. We think we can't breathe, that our hearts are going to stop, that we're going to fall apart and die. Yet somehow the human race, despite nearly every member of it having gone through this horrible set of feelings at least once, continues to thrive. And anyone who insists that suicide or the physical release found in cutting is going to make it easier, is lying. All that does is feed the flames, making us addicted to the non-solution of distraction.
Those who get through these trying times, do so because they tap into that almost unlimited source of inner power we all have - the human spirit. Every one of us is worth more than the sorrow, more than the pain, more than the false accusation that we're worthless because someone failed us. That means we aren't the failures - the ones rejecting our tender, pure hearts are the failures. And they'll have to contend with their own darkness. It is up to them to fix it, and not up to the ones they've hurt.
The lyrics of an old song go, "Everyone is beautiful in their own way..." Yes. We are. Push the fire away and seek the cool peace of self-worth. That's what got me through. ')
