I believe the ads do a dis-service to this site, & are not representive of our writing. I am also concerned that a few are inappropriate for our younger members and defeats the object of having the family filter installed.
Personally, I would rather pay a few pounds/dollars non-returnable set up fee/annual fee to showcase my stories. BookRix would accrue the funds they need & the few that are guilty may be dissuade from having duplicate accounts.
Younger members under the age of 18 years could join at a reduced price or free.

Join groups that you might find interesting and beneficial to your beginning career. Serious Writers is great. Young Writers. Many others. Communicate with the members in posts. Be thoughtful. Get your face out there...and your reads will follow:)
Edit, edit, edit. Make your blurbs, your book interiors, your covers, the best they can possibly be. Remember that there are thousands here who are asking for attention, vis a vis their books. Try to stand a bit above the crowd...but never look down on it. We are all in this together.
