Having run the mile on occasion in high school (gave it up for the quarter and
the half), I was impressed with the effort it took to go that distance at all
--even a 1:58 half was much better than I ever did. Interestingly, just a week
or two before Bannister set his record--I was a first year med student at the
time--there was an article in JAMA, if I remember correctly, that said that 4
minutes was the limit of human... Show more
