This is not a children's book. It addresses serious subjects including sexual violence. 

Asai Quannra, the Pirate king's daughter, is forced to stay on the world of Sand at the Cliff Walls colony--the same colony ruled by Lord Gwyrran--the father of Anda Gwyrran. The idea was for her to stay with her cousins, the Veelslahs, while most of her father's colony goes marauding off into space to attack the shipping fleets of the Th'san Empire. However, Asai thinks this is a bad idea.

And she is right. 

But the Cliff Walls colony is more corrupt and dangerous than even she could have imagined. It is not safe for an independent-minded young woman, especially one who dares to challege the perverse and corrupt society that turns a blind eye to the actions of their young and unrestrained men. And though she is the Pirate king's daughter, giving her some protection, not all of her detractors comprehend that messing with her is a bad idea. After all, the Pirate king would kill anyone who messed with his daughter.

Problem is, her father is far away and her allies in the camp are few and getting fewer. And those who have their eyes on her don't exactly think with their heads.
