Upon returning to Arras (Mars) after tying up some loose ends on Earth, Jafarr Zeldar and Zormna Clendar discover their battle to reform Arras is not quite over. It takes a lot more to overthrow ten thousand years of the caste system framework and ideology—especially when one wants to keep the bloodshed at a minimum. And though they have the alliance of the military and the rebellion to fall back on, Zormna and Jafarr discover that everyone has an expectation of what should happen next—most especially with their queen, Zormna. They had not had a queen for over ten millennia, and Zormna finds she is facing a more romantic view of what a queen is and does in the minds of her citizens. As an orphan raised to be the perfect soldier, she is not too happy with it. It involves frilly stuff and the insane notion that she ought to get married ASAP. But she is only 15, and that is the furthest from her mind.
