I think you have to consider all aspects of retirement. It's an individual
thing. Retirement isn't right for all people.

I've discovered that it's imperative I keep myself busy and engaged. In a
society where it's easier to dispatch older people to the nether regions, I
find myself constantly warding off condescension and disbelief at my
abilities. We're a youth-driven society and we make almost no allowances for
those who don't want to retire.

My letter carrier drove by yesterday. It was his last day on the job and he
wanted to thank everyone for being so kind to him over the years. I thanked
him for his service and congratulated him on his retirement. What I really
wanted to tell him was to keep himself busy, or find a hobby and to enjoy
every precious moment. It goes so quickly. Drive your own bus.
