I think college students attending public colleges & universities should be
eligible for subsidized housing and food stamps.

Who better to invest in than in future taxpayers?! Everyone frets about the
cost of tuition (and it deserves to be called out), but tuition is only the
first hurdle in the financial drain that is college. Unless a student can live
with his or her parents, there are a host of other expenses to worry about
when living in an apartment:
• Rent
• Food
• Utilities

Much of that goes away if the student lives on campus (not an option
everywhere), but then you still have to pay for room & board + a meal plan
which can easily exceed the cost of tuition for a semester.

Regardless of the living situation, there are other expenses when having a
vehicle is necessary:
• Auto insurance
• gas
• oil changes
• parking pass
• auto payment (in some cases)
• auto repairs (in some cases)

Then even if you have no car, there's still:
• Books
• Technology fees
• lab fees & equipment
• school supplies
• credit card payments (for when you fall short on any of the above)
• clothes
• phone / data plan
• entertainment

The chance for a kid with no independent living experience to manage all of
this AND be expected to focus on his/her studies WITHOUT guidance & support is
unreasonable. So, let's give them room & board + an EBT card to feed
themselves if they can cover the rest. God knows it would have helped me
tremendously.
