Serenade

my grandmother's story and my wishful thinking By:
Serenade
Family members, especially grandparents are a valuable source of inspiration. I grew up listening to my maternal grandmother's stories about her life, about my mother and what it was like to live in the Dominican Republic during a dictatorship. This memoir is a conversation I had with her not long after I returned from traveling to Puerto Rico and Mexico.

A nostalgic romp that embarrasses me, am I so old? I remember serenading a charming young lady from my convertible and enraging her father who called me a worthless bum. He came blustering from the house with a shotgun in his hands and I hastily left. Thank you for the read.

Really glad you liked it! It's my older work and I'm hoping to incorporate it into something new this coming year, maybe submit it into a literary magazine.

And it's good to hear you survived that deadly serenade :D

that step back, to the time when everything and everyone seemed more romantic. My grandmother and father had that, wish it was more prevalent now a days.

This is very sentimental story, a lovely approach to bridging the gap between generations and ever-changing cultural trends. I like it a lot.

Check me out at The Swap Shop- Our Place.

What a great idea to tap into your family stories. This was a wonderful read and made me think of writing about my own family. By the way, you are such a good writer.

Nostalgia for an age long past, serenades, Sunday picnics, visiting on the porch swing, country dances, asking parents for permission to date their daughter. I've often thought I should have been born at the turn of the last century when romance was actually romantic.

Your story brought back those wistful longings for me.

Nicely written

Thank you guys for your comments! I appreciate them so much. And I suppose you all realized now that I'm a hopeless romantic and here I was trying to hide it. ^_^ If you guys like I'll try to work on a few more memoirs
