In my humble opinion, he wasn't here long enough to know if he could do a good
job.

In a state that doesn't value education, and in the face of terrible budget
shortfalls, his answer was to cut the budgets of the best schools to help the
worst schools. Sounds fair, but there are only a half dozen of the 'best'
schools (magnet schools, not charter schools...6 of them ranked above the
likes of Stuyvesant, Hunter, and Brooklyn Polytechnic). The other 280 are all
rather sad, just like the public schools of NYC. So for a city one-third the
size of NYC to have six schools better than any in NYC was a valuable
accomplishment, and he was willing to sacrifice it.

Bottom line: he's not a political power player.
