Just finished the book The Battle Hymn Blues, by Baker Lawley. Very enjoyable young adult novel. The author's style is easy to read and pleasing on the eyes and ears. Not many stories for young males can hold the reader's attention as well as this one. I'd give it five stars for an American audience, but I'd remove a star for its high dependence on the US Civil War history for non-American audiences. Also, its reliance on music metaphors felt somewhat out of place in a novel, but I thought it might be appropriate for the target audience.
